#SustainableFoundations VZW is a non-profit organisation.

It aims to make the world more sustainable by creating better foundations of ambitious, more sustainable environmental standards in EU policy and legislation.

The foundation will work on the following topics:

  1. Sponsored projects: It attracts independent, impactful projects / funding from philanthropy to make a change on EU regulatory level where that could have a significant positive impact on the environment. For those projects it seeks the right partners to carry out the work [one of those partners can be #SustainablePublicAffairs but these partners are typically also content specialists.]
  2. Capacity building of purpose-driven and divers PA consultants for good: Raise awareness about the profession of Public Affairs, and the responsibilities with which it needs to be undertaken + the opportunities it brings to do good, certainly to people that would normally not be aware of this profession [there is a mentoring / sponsoring program with the Molenbeek Rebels – a girls-only basketball team from Molenbeek / and we have been selected by the School for Moral Ambition as one of their host organizations].
  3. Orphan projects: #SustainableFoundations wants to become a haven for orphan sustainable PA projects (projects that, with a change on EU regulatory level, could have a significant positive impact on the environment – but that cannot find sponsors). This will be sponsored by the rest of the funding that remains in the foundation, after the capacity building. Management of these projects will be done either by #SustainablePublicAffairs or other content specialists.

Our aim is to professionalize NGO work, and increase its positive impact.

Funding

Funding

Funding: #SustainableFoundations is an independent actor but has a special relationship with #SustainablePublicAffairs in the sense that the latter:

  • donates 1% of the profits yearly
  • contributes in kind by giving its staff time to work on the capacity building projects of the foundation pro-bono
  • contributes in kind to the sponsored projects and orphan projects by working for #SustainableFoundations on reduced hourly rates

The rest of the funding of #SustainableFoundation will come from independent, sponsored projects.

Projects

Projects

Depolarization through sustainable protein diversification:

We have set-up a coalition of stakeholders from across the protein value chain.

Together we wrote a position paper on sustainable protein diversification, arguing that it is a critical framing to depolarize the debate and propose concrete solutions to improve the protein landscape.

The paper is supported by 80+ organisations and can be found here.

Exploring how EU policy can accelerate the uptake of natural building materials (NBMs):

With support from Built by Nature, we undertook an action research project to investigate the potential of NBMs to decarbonize the built environment and create economic opportunity for rural areas.

The project report brings together findings from desk research, expert interviews and a workshop with participants from along the NBM value chain to develop recommendations on how frontrunners and EU policymakers can accelerate the uptake of NBMs.

The report can be found here.
